Color Demonstrations through Light

Let’s take a look at some more typical types of lighting set-ups using our newly informed sense of color.

Evaluate the following experiments in terms of:
  1. The amount of contrast
  2. The way colors and color contrasts affect the plasticity (modeling/form) of the actor and visibility
  3. The way we see and what we see.
  4. The look, feeling, and mood of what you see.

You are looking at the effects of color and angles in isolation.

Use this isolation to develop a visual vocabulary of lighting to be used in relation to an analysis of the environment to be created for a play.

Anytime a light is on for these examples, it is at full intensity. Of course, during actual cueing, we would be able to control intensities and have further control over focus and actual color selection.

Look at these examples, reflect on what you see, and then play with the “Mini Light Lab” to experiment further!

Please feel encouraged to look at a Rosco swatchbook or their website http://rosco.com/filters/roscolux.cfm#colors while viewing these demonstrations.

I very rarely put the same color coming from multiple positions in the same plot. Even in this case, with a monochromatic (or single) color scheme, I like to make it just slightly dynamic with a little difference.
